Let's just blow this myth right out the water!
Rose essential oil could be considered expensive at just over £2 a drop, BUT, if you were just using one drop a day and you noticed specific, positive physical and emotional changes it was making to your hormone balance, or how much healthier your skin was looking or whether you were feeling sexier and more confident or any number of other possibilities, would you still think it was too expensive??
Switching out toxin-laded products in favour of all-natural alternatives as part of your lifestyle is about making better-informed, healthier choices. Once you know which oils can help with what and you start feeling and looking incredible because you’ve seen the results for yourself, suddenly they don’t look so pricey anymore.
What other things do you spend £2 on every day? Does it give you that same emotional and mental boost because your hormones aren’t all over the place any more or you can’t help checking in the mirror at the difference it’s made to your skin?
The majority of oils don’t even cost nearly this much, and if you do find one that you think is a little pricey, often you can find an alternative with the same amazing benefits with a less expensive price tag! So you can still support your wellness for a whole lot less….
Here are my top 9 oils for less than £20 and some of the amazing benefits they’ll give you – may be one of them is exactly what you’ve been looking for…

My favourite Singles
Cedarwood 15ml £11.20 = 4p per drop
Discover the smoky woodsy aroma of Cedarwood, extensively used in perfumery. Throughout history, this oil has been used as a traditional medicine, incense and to enhance spiritual connection – perfect for your meditation practice.
This oil stimulates the pineal gland which in turn releases melatonin – great for enhancing quality sleep and one of the four oils I add to the diffuser at bedtime.
It’s soothing and purifying qualities can be applied into a lotion to soothe dry skin or added to your shampoo for healthy looking hair.
Eucalyptus Radiata 15ml £18.15 = 7p per drop
Refresh and revitalise your mind, body and soul with this stimulating scent. Another treasure from folk medicine which contains high levels of 1.8 cineole – you can Google all the benefits of this.
I love it in the diffuser, especially over the winter month, for a fresh burst of air. It’s fabulous for easy breathing too. I add it to coconut oil and rub it on my chest and upper back when I need the extra support.
Lemongrass 15ml £11.20 = 4p per drop / 5ml+ £5.45 = 7p per drop
I love the bright, purifying aroma of Lemongrass as much as I love adding it to Asian dinner recipes or a cheeky G&T. It’s zesty smell is energising and helps boost focus and clarity.
Historically it’s been used for everything from cleaning to immune boosting to soothing muscles. A great one to take internally with Peppermint after a big meal or to your moisturiser to help purify and cleanse your skin.
Do a quick Google search on the terpene properties of Lemongrass essential oil and prepare to be amazed!
Orange 15ml £10.59 = 4p per drop / 5ml+ £5.18 = 6p per drop
We’re never without ‘happiness in a bottle’! All you need to do is open it and breathe in deeply to feel more positive, at peace and relaxed. The powerful compound to Google here is limonene.
Orange is another one of my oils that gets added to the diffuser at bedtime, as well as to my evening face serum as it helps reduce blemishes, wrinkles and gives my skin that lovely radiant glow.
My daughter loves to bake and we’ve added this to brownie mixes – they were a total hit and didn’t last long! The kids also have a drop or two in their water which gives it a burst of flavour without all the artificial everythings you get in cordials.
Rosemary 15ml £15.42 = 6p per drop / 5ml+ £6.65 = 8p per drop
Rosemary is more than a herby condiment although I do use this in many different dishes as it gives it a much deeper flavouring than the wooden leaves or dried variety.
The aroma is fresh, fragrant and cleansing – all great to help clarity and concentration. Its naturally occurring constituents eucalyptol and alpha-pinene (two more to Google!) can help with overall wellness. In fact, not that long ago French hospitals used Rosemary to disinfect the air.
My favourite Blends
Grounding 5ml £17.55 = 22p per drop
Like with all of our blends, the purpose of the oil is in the name. When we’re feeling grounded we’re also more balanced so instead of trying to avoid reality, we’re in a better place to deal with whatever life throws our way.
You can add to a spray bottle and use it as a spritz but I prefer to dab it onto my pulse points and neckline to restore a little calm.
Citrus Fresh 15ml £15.12 = 6p per drop / 5ml+ £6.37 = 8p per drop
Citrus Fresh is an enticingly vibrant infusion of Orange, Tangerine, Mandarin, Grapefruit and a hint of minty Spearmint. All the citrus oils are uplifting and opens the mind to feeling more creative and fun-loving. Great in the car on long journeys to keep you alert and the space smelling fresh.
Also equally amazing to give extra zest and wellness benefits to your morning smoothie.
Melrose 15ml £19.54 = 9p per drop
This is a great blend in the diffuser to get rid of nasty smells and helps purify the air around you. It has a calming, warm, woodsy scent – great in a hot bath to refresh and rejuvenate.
I’ve also used it on broken and irritated skin and it seems to have helped with healing and soothing it.
R.C. 5 ml £10.16 = 13p per drop
Feel reinvigorated with this blend of 10 essential oils which gives your senses a jump start when they need it most. I tend to just use this on my chest and pulse points when the winter gets the best of me or just before I exercise but it’s also great in the diffuser to clear the air and ‘elp you breathe more easily!
